Jewelz DaBarber's personal journey began much like the young people his mentoring program is designed to serve. Growing up in the community, he navigated similar challenges and understands firsthand the transformative power of a positive mentor and a skill that can open doors. For over a decade, Scales has honed his craft as a professional barber, observing the barbershop evolve from a simple place for a haircut into a true community hub — a place where trust is built, crucial conversations are had, and respect is earned.

This deep observation has fueled his passion to create something more, driven by the belief that his skills can be used as a powerful tool for social change. By teaching the art of barbering, he realized the opportunity to teach discipline, professionalism, customer service, and the confidence that comes with mastering a valuable trade.

Our Program is a proposed community-based initiative led by Jewel Scales, a seasoned professional with over ten years of experience and a deep commitment to youth development. This initiative aims to go beyond the traditional barbershop model by providing at-risk and underserved youth with mentorship, life skills, and professional training in the art of barbering. The core mission is to create a safe space where young individuals can build self-confidence, acquire a valuable trade, and transform their futures, one haircut at a time.
